ASQ logoBaltimore, Maryland (May 2016) – This June, the ASQ−Brookes Publishing International Research Committee will hold its second annual event, ASQ AROUND THE WORLD: The 2nd Invitational Symposium of International ASQ Researchers. Held in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 6–7, 2016, the symposium is an opportunity for international researchers and practitioners using ASQ-3™ and ASQ:SE-2™ to share their work with fellow colleagues.

Invited participants representing work underway in at least 18 countries—including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Japan, The Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, and the United States—will participate in discussion about the research and science behind the international use of the ASQ screening tools. Led by the foremost experts in developmental screening, Dr. Jane Squires and Dr. Diane Bricker, the group will examine common issues and goals around screening and discuss related activities to enhance global communication and develop an international research agenda for ASQ.

ASQ co-developer Jane Squires, Ph.D., says, “I anticipate that this symposium will be as groundbreaking as the first, with researchers from around the world sharing research outcomes and advances in developmental screening for preschool children. Learning about cultural adaptations, challenges and solutions, and the common strands that run through ASQ-related research was thought-provoking as well as inspirational.”

Research on numerous translations of ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2, including Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, and Georgian, will be presented via lectures, poster sessions, and group discussions. Implementation of screening in several countries, including the United States, China, and Portugal, will be the focus of individual presentations. One presentation will highlight the recent revisions to the second edition of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, while others will look at the use of the ASQ tools with children in foster care and children from indigenous cultures.

During the two-day symposium, attendees will use their diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences to identify solutions for adaptation and translation of ASQ questionnaires and the creation of new ASQ-related products. Recommendations for addressing barriers to developmental-behavioral screening in different cultures will also be shared.

“We are honored to facilitate the gathering of pioneering researchers from around the world who are working to improve outcomes for all children,” says Melissa Behm, Executive Vice President for Brookes Publishing. “This symposium highlights the international stature of ASQ as the premier developmental screening tool worldwide.”
