Position: Acquisitions Assistant

Description: Brookes Publishing, an educational publishing company in Towson (just north of Baltimore), is looking for an Acquisitions Assistant to join our team. Brookes publishes highly respected books and other resources in early childhood, early intervention, inclusive and special education, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, literacy, communication and language, behavior, and mental health.
Our titles range from graduate level textbooks, professional references, and practical handbooks to curricula, assessment tools, and family guidebooks and videos. We're proud of our company's independence and long commitment to delivering high quality content to the wide range of professionals who serve children with disabilities and children at risk and their families.
Key duties:
The Acquisitions Assistant will be responsible for facilitating the successful acquisition, tracking, and preparation of projects for publication:
- Assisting and supporting acquisitions editors with author and project management
- Providing correspondence, agreements, contracts, and other documentation to authors and other business associates
- Coordinating with other acquisitions staff to ensure prompt communication of product status in the acquisitions process
- Supporting editors in preparing for conference travel, author meetings, and other acquisitions opportunities
- Fielding author and prospective author inquiries
- Conducting continual market and competition research; analyzing trends in assigned list areas
- Coordinating the external review of product proposals and product content
- Representing the company at local, statewide, and national conferences as assigned
Requirements:
This position requires
- Bachelor's degree
- 13 years relevant experience and/or mix of experience and education
- Intermediate proficiency in computer operation and Microsoft Suite programs
- Excellent communication, editing, and writing skills
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and research skills
- Strong process-building abilities
