You can use the Adult-Child Interactive Reading Inventory (ACIRI) featured in Andrea DeBruin-Parecki's new book Let's Read Together. ACIRI is the first evidence-based instrument that allows you to measure how well an adult and child engage in 12 specific behaviors that have been shown to lead to reading success. Once ACIRI reveals areas of weakness, you share with the parent or caregiver activities, included in English and Spanish, that are designed to enhance those behaviors. Amy Wetherby, executive director of Florida State University's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and co-author of the groundbreaking SCERTS Model, is leading a study of children with autism spectrum disorders aimed at learning to detect signs of autism in children as young as 12 months; currently, the average age of diagnosis is around 3 years.
