Barbara Lowenthal, Ed.D.

Barbara Lowenthal, Ed.D., is a professor in the Department of Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Previously an early childhood special education teacher, Dr. Lowenthal’s research and publications have focused on attention-deficit disorders, learning disabilities, and early childhood special education. She is a co-author of two books, Attention Deficit Disorders: Assessment and Teaching (Brooks/Cole Thompson Learning, 1995) and Preschool Children with Special Needs: Children at Risk, Children with Disabilities (Allyn & Bacon, 1998). Dr. Lowenthal also is a co-author of a chapter in The World Book Health and Medical Annual (World Book, 1999) on attention-deficit disorders. She has been featured on LD (Learning Disabilities) OnLine (http//:www.ldonline.org), and has been commended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for presentations about child maltreatment and the education and health implications of childhood asthma.
