Seminar Description

Participants will learn how to lead a parenting program that shows parents and caregivers how to better prepare their children for a successful adulthood. Drs. Brooks and Goldstein review the qualities of a resilient mindset and emphasize the crucial role parents play in fostering resilience in their children.

Following this seminar, participants will be able to

  • lead a 9-week parenting program designed to assist parents in raising resilient children

  • help parents understand the components of resilience so interactions with their children can be guided by a blueprint of important principles, ideas, and actions

  • explain the qualities of children with a resilient mindset and the obstacles to instilling these qualities

  • guide parents in developing a set of strategies to foster these qualities

The 1.5-hour sessions that participants will learn to lead are based on seven guideposts that will help parents learn to raise resilient children:

  1. Be empathic

  2. Change negative scripts to positive ones

  3. Discipline in ways that promote self-discipline and self-worth

  4. Teach children to solve problems and make decisions

  5. Love children in ways that help them to feel special and appreciated

  6. Help children recognize that mistakes are experiences from which to learn

  7. Help children experience success by identifying and reinforcing their islands of competence
Bonus: Participants will be certified to run parenting programs on raising resilient children upon completion of this seminar!
