Seminar Description
Emotional development, including infantparent attachment, stems from the relationships babies and toddlers develop with their parents. Drawing on research and clinical experience, Dr. Gowen and Ms. Nebrig teach seminar participants about early emotional development and show them how to build strong relationships with parents that guide and support that development. Participants will
- gain an in-depth understanding of attachment and other aspects of emotional development during babies first two years
- learn specific strategies that parents can use to promote emotional development at each of five stages
- explore techniques for helping parents deal with various challenges to effective parenting, such as mental illness, substance abuse, mental retardation, and a history of abuse and neglect
- discover ways to support parents who seem unmotivated, resistant, hostile or apathetic
Quality relationships are the underlying theme of this workshop, and participants will learn how to strengthen many different kinds: parentchild, professionalparent, supervisorsupervisee, and parents and professionals interactions with other community helpers.
