Working with children with Asperger’s syndrome? The Inclusive Planning workshop can focus exclusively on their needs or on the needs of children with Asperger’s syndrome and children with autism.
Seminar Description

Dr. Quill presents state-of-the-art methods for educating children with autism and related pervasive developmental disorders, emphasizing strategies for social and communication intervention. After the workshops described below, participants will be able to design and implement intervention plans and understand the value of integrated approaches in intervention and education.

Build your customized seminar from one or two of the following workshops:

Social and Communication Intervention for Children with Autism (2–3 days)

Learn how to create a successful treatment program for children with autism by using innovative intervention strategies that combine behavioral and developmental approaches to maximize children’s social and communication skills. Through lecture, video, and discussion, Dr. Quill addresses

  • social and communication characteristics

  • assessment and curriculum planning

  • strategies to enhance pivotal social skills, communication skills, play, group skills, and community skills

This workshop focuses on children with autism and does not address the needs of children with Asperger’s syndrome.

Educating Children with Autism/PDD: Contemporary Behaviorism (2–4 days)

Learn more about the educational needs of children with autism/PDD and discover various methods for teaching these children. Through lecture, video, and discussion, Dr. Quill addresses

  • cognitive, language, social, and behavioral characteristics

  • assessment and curriculum planning

  • core instructional strategies using principles of contemporary behaviorism

  • non-aversive behavior management

The workshop emphasizes the importance of integrating state-of-the-art behavioral and developmental methods for maximum benefit.

Inclusive Planning for Students with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome (2–3 days)

Develop a broader understanding of students with autism/PDD and Asperger’s syndrome and learn to create appropriate inclusion plans that provide support in four crucial areas:

  • academics

  • behavior

  • social skills

  • emotional development

The workshop emphasizes the importance of ongoing communication and accountability among the educational team. Extensive resources are provided.

Bonus: Spend up to a day exploring a variety of autism intervention methods and discovering the importance of integrating medical, educational, and social services for children and families. Through case studies, Dr. Quill raises unanswered questions about autism and makes recommendations for future research.
