This thorough 3-day seminar shows you how to

  • implement ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 effectively

  • work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • teach others within your organization how to successfully use ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2

While at the Institute, you’ll receive instruction from an ASQ expert, practice forms, case studies, and a binder with handouts for conducting trainings within your organization. See a sample agenda.

Who should attend

The Institute is designed for intermediate to advanced ASQ users who already oversee ASQ implementation and ASQ training within their organization; participants will leave the Institute prepared to instruct colleagues on ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2. However, new ASQ users also may find the Institute beneficial to their understanding and implementation of ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2. All participants will receive valuable information to advance their skill level and knowledge of the tools.

Meet Your Presenters


Elizabeth Twombly, M.S., is Senior Researcher and Instructor in the Early Intervention Program at the University of Oregon. For more than 20 years, Ms. Twombly has been involved in ASQ research projects, including renorming for the ASQ:SE-2 and the ASQ-3. She has conducted trainings on ASQ and ASQ:SE nationally and internationally, and has provided technical assistance to states on the development of early identification and referral systems for young children.

 

Suzanne Yockelson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Brandman University. Sue received her degree from the University of Oregon Early Intervention Program and has a background in education for typically and atypically developing children. She provides instruction on developmental screening of young children using ASQ.

What you need to know about registration

Please note that we have a specific number of seats available for the October 2018 Institute. The demand is high and seating is limited and will fill quickly. We cannot guarantee that seating will be available through the registration cutoff date of September 9, 2018. Registration may be closed prior to the cutoff date due to reaching maximum capacity.

How do I get from the Airport to the Hotel if I rent a car?

Do I need to pay to park at the Hotel?


Yes, the hotel provides valet parking services only. Valet parking is $46 inclusive with in and out privileges during your stay. Valet charges for oversized vehicles is $70 inclusive, and based on availability.

Are hotel accommodations included in the registration fee?


No, for the Institute, you will need to make your own hotel reservations.

A limited number of rooms have been reserved at The Arctic Club Seattle for a discounted rate per night for single & double occupancy. Please see below for the specific types of rooms available as well as the discounted nightly room rates. Rooms are on a first-come, first reserved basis. The hotel may not be able to extend the discounted rates beyond the room block or the cutoff date. Single/Double Room – $209.00 per room per night plus applicable taxes and a $2.00 per night city assessment fee.

At the time of printing, the Hotel’s room rates are subject to applicable sales tax currently 15.6% and a $2.00 per night city assessment fee.

Will I need to pay a deposit on the hotel room or will my credit card be sufficient?


Each reservation must be guaranteed with one (1) night’s room and tax, either with a major credit card, check or cash. This deposit is due at the time of reservation, and prior to cut-off date, and is subject to a “24 hour” cancellation policy to avoid forfeiture. Any reservation not canceled in accordance with reservation policies will be subject to cancellation fee of one night’s room and tax, and will be charged against the individual’s deposit.

What time can I check-in at the Hotel?


Check-in is 4:00 p.m.; if you arrive early and your hotel room is not available, you may check your luggage and enjoy the Seattle area until check-in time.

When do I need to check-out of the Hotel?


Check-out is 11:00 a.m.; unless you are staying for an additional night, you will need to check-out on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 by 11:00 a.m. Luggage storage is available at the hotel.

Do I need to bring any ASQ materials to the Institute? / What products are required for the training?

Yes, you will need to bring the following with you:
ASQ-3 User’s Guide (Brookes Publishing Stock #70045, $50.00); and
ASQ:SE-2 User’s Guide (Brookes Publishing Stock #79581, $50.00).

Institute attendees receive a 20% pre-Institute discount on all ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 products (except ASQ Online). The discount code will be emailed along with your confirmation of registration, once your payment is processed. No, you only need to bring your ASQ-3 User’s Guide and ASQ:SE-2 User’s Guide.

What are the hours of the training?

The Institute hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1; Tuesday, October 2; and Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Schedule is subject to change. Special Event: ASQ Online – Hands-on Learning session, Thursday, October 4, 2018; 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subject to an additional fee of USD $275.00 per person (see details below).

For the best possible Institute experience and to successfully complete the training, please plan to stay until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3. Certificates of completion and the flash drive of training materials will be given at the end to those who successfully complete the entire Institute. Where can I learn more about ASQ Online?

As part of the registration fee, there will be a one-hour overview for ASQ Online on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

For those who currently use ASQ Online and are designated as either a Provider or Administrator, this your opportunity to learn more detailed information about ASQ Online! We will be hosting an ASQ Online hands-on learning session on Thursday, October 4, from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM. Registration for this event is only available to Institute attendees. The additional registration fee is USD $275.00 per person. The ASQ Online registration fee includes a continental breakfast, morning break, lunch, and an afternoon break. You may provide your own laptop or tablet for this training. Space is limited to the first 20 people.

I am a new to using ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2, is this Institute for me?


The 2018 Institute is designed for intermediate to advanced ASQ users who already oversee ASQ implementation and training within their organization; participants will leave the Institute prepared to instruct their colleagues on ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2.

The Institute is your opportunity to network with colleagues, have questions answered by our expert speakers, and learn how to conduct an ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2 introduction seminar within your own organization.

I use ASQ Online and want to learn more, what can I expect from this training?


For those who currently use ASQ Online and are designated as either a Provider or Administrator, this your opportunity to learn more detailed information about ASQ Online! We will be hosting an ASQ Online hands-on learning session on Thursday, October 4, from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM. Registration for this event is only available to Institute attendees. The additional registration fee is USD $275.00 per person. The ASQ Online registration fee includes a continental breakfast, morning break, lunch, and an afternoon break. You may provide your own laptop or tablet for this training. Space is limited to the first 20 people.

Do I need to attend the full Institute training?


Yes, in order to receive your certificate of completion and flash drive of training materials, you must be present for all three training days and the appropriate hours and complete the full seminar agenda. Please take into account the travel time to and from the airport when making your flight reservations and try your best to plan your travel for after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

I need to leave early on the last day to catch my flight home. Is that okay?


Full attendance is required for successful completion of the training. Please arrange your flight accordingly; the seminar ends on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Please take into account the travel time to and from the airport when making your flight reservations and try your best to plan your travel for after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.

During the training I will need to call my office for a meeting. Is that okay?


We understand that emergencies occur and that a call to the office may become necessary; outside of emergency circumstances, please try to avoid scheduling calls/meetings while you are in attendance at the Institute. If this is unavoidable, please attempt to limit these interruptions by scheduling them during breaks and lunches. As is noted, full attendance is required for successful completion of the training, please arrange your business calls and meetings accordingly. The seminar concludes at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

After the Institute, what can I do with my new ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 knowledge?


You are being trained to return to your place of employment for the purpose of providing introduction training on ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2 to colleagues within your office/organization/agency. You are not authorized to train outside of your place of employment nor are you authorized to charge a fee for your training.

What can I do with the handouts and flash drive that I receive at the Institute?


You may duplicate the materials for distribution at trainings for colleagues within your office/organization/agency. If necessary, you may charge a nominal fee to cover the cost to reproduce training materials only.

Who are the Institute trainers?


Institute trainers are people who have been involved in the authorship, development, and/or research of the ASQ-3 and/or the ASQ:SE-2. All have extensive experience in early childhood and early childhood intervention. Many are currently professors at universities in the United States.

Will I meet any of the ASQ-3 or ASQ:SE-2 authors at the Institute?


Yes! Our Institute trainers are expert speakers and contributing authors on either ASQ-3, ASQ:SE-2, or both!

What is the ASQ Online Hands-On Learning Session?


For the first time, we are offering an additional day of training geared specifically towards customers using the ASQ Online Data Management System. Our expert ASQ Implementation Specialist will provide interactive instruction on using the ASQ Online system.

What is included in the ASQ Online Hands-On Learning Session?


The ASQ Online presentation will focus on the technical uses of the ASQ Online system. The Seminar covers the process of getting started with the online system from discussing roles, setting up child profiles, entering screenings, managing data, and creating mail outs. Additionally, for administrators we will cover entering new users and product key codes, assigning providers to children, reporting, and Family Access set up and administration. Participants will also receive a continental breakfast, AM Break, Lunch, and a PM Break.

Is there an additional fee for the ASQ Online Hands-On Learning Session?


Yes, there is an additional fee of $275.00 per person; the ASQ Online session is limited to 20 people and requires separate registration. Registration for this event is only available to Institute attendees.

The 3-day registration fee for an individual is USD $995.00 per person.
Groups of 4 or more and paying with one organization payment, $945.00 per person.
Early bird registration $945.00 per person; registrations must be postmarked by August 6, 2018.

SPECIAL EVENT: We are offering an ASQ Online Hands-on learning session on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The cost for this special event registration is an additional USD $275.00 per person; only for registrants of the ASQ Institute. Space is limited to the first 20 people.

Do you offer group rates?

Yes, you can receive a discount on the registration fee when 4 or more persons from the same program attend and register with one payment (by credit card, check, or purchase order).

What additional training is available?

We will be hosting an ASQ Online hands-on training session on Thursday, October 4, from 9:00 AM–4:00 PM. Registration for this event is only available to Institute attendees. The additional registration fee is USD $275.00 per person. The ASQ Online registration fee includes a continental breakfast, morning break, lunch, and an afternoon break. What is NOT included in my registration fee?

Neither your transportation nor your hotel accommodations are included in the registration fee. Each attendee will need to secure his/her own transportation to and from the Institute as well as lodging while at the Institute. Evening meals and entertainment are not included in the registration fee.

CANCELLATION OR SUBSTITUTION


I registered but now I am unable to attend, what are my options?

1) Send a substitute: If you wish to send a substitute in your place, there will be a $75 administrative fee. Both the administrative fee of $75 and the registration form for the new individual must be completed and sent to our office by email no later than September 9, 2018. After September 9, 2018, we are unable to accept substitutions and the participant may either transfer to another seminar in 2018 or cancel their registration and forfeit their payment.

2) Transfer to another Institute: We would be glad to accept your registration into another Institute based on availability. There will be a $300.00 transfer fee to transfer to another Institute. Additionally, if the registration fee for the new Institute is higher (for instance, the early bird registration has passed) you will be responsible to pay the difference between the original registration fee paid and the current Institute’s registration fee. The transfer fee of $300.00 must be paid prior to being approved for the transfer.

3) Cancel: If you must cancel your attendance completely, all cancellations must be received in writing by mail, fax, or email. Cancellations received prior to March 3, 2018, will receive a 75% refund. Cancellations received after September 9, 2018, are non-refundable.

MISCELLANEOUS

Would I be able to obtain training elsewhere if I am unable to attend the October Institute?

Yes, we will be holding additional Training Institutes in 2018; visit www.brookespublishing.com/asq-institute for more information. Through the Brookes On Location program, you can also arrange for a trainer to come to your location on the date of your choice. Can I buy product at the Institute?

What should I wear to the training?


Institute attire is casual professional; we recommend dressing in layers as the meeting room temperatures may be cooler or warmer than the temperature outside. You may want to bring a sweater or light jacket to the training.

What is the weather like in Seattle?

Seattle’s fall weather is wonderful. Daytime temperatures loll around 68°F while evenings are on the cool side. The weather is still mild, average temperatures range from a high of 65°F and a low of 49°F. Precipitation increases as winter nears, so pack some warm clothes and an umbrella.
