Reliably assess how well preschool teachers are implementing Pyramid Model practices

TPOT logo

The Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool (TPOT™) reliability workshop prepares participants in the use of the instrument to gather information on preschool teacher implementation of the Pyramid Model practices. This is an intensive workshop that requires prerequisite knowledge, preparation, and participation in the entire workshop. Participants who successfully complete the workshop and meet reliability standards will receive a certificate indicating reliability status and can serve as reliability partners to other observers. Successful completion will indicate that the TPOT workshop participant is reliable with the instrument development team.

During the 2-day seminar, participants will learn

  • how to use TPOT instrument with a focus on key definitions and scoring guidance
  • about the scoring of indicators
  • how to observe and interview based on a 2 ½ hour video
  • and to score the TPOT to check for reliability with the gold standard score

Prerequisites:

In order to participate in the TPOT workshop, all attendees should be familiar with the Pyramid Model and have completed some Pyramid Model training (e.g., CSEFEL preschool modules).  Participants are strongly encouraged to review the Inventory of Practices for Promoting Children’s Social Emotional Competence prior to attending the workshop.

If participants have limited background in the Pyramid Model, they are strongly encouraged to visit these Pyramid Model websites to view videos and presentations.
